Kitty getting bored with the same old toys? Shake things up a bit with stuff you may already have lying around the house.
Materials needed:
- Adult Shoe Box (preferably a large one, running shoe size)
- Clear plastic wrap.
- Tape (clear packing preferred)
- A pair of scissors
- An old toy ball (or 2) with bell or beads inside
- A old small fake mouse (optional)
What to do:
Kids, you should have adult do any part of this project requiring the use of scissors. It's for your own safety!
- Take the lid off of the box. You won't really be needing it.
- Set the box down with the open side up.
- Cut a small square hole on the side of the box (at least 1 on each side) close to the bottom side, about 1" x 1"
- Place the toys inside the box.
- Cut off enough plastic wrap to cover the top of the box, and with about 1/2" extra hanging on each side.
- Cover the top with the plastic wrap, and tape firmly it to the box using the tape. Make sure it sticks well.
- Repeat again with a second layer of plastic wrap.
Tada, it's done.
Release the kitties. Gently shake the box a little. This will
get the cat interested. Poke your fingers through the hole on the bottom and bat the ball
around.
This is a Skittles Approved toy. Skittles has been using her box for over 2 years now, and
it is still a favorite. Make sure you put it away every once in a while. It keeps the
excitement and feeling of a new toy.
Alternately, you can make holes in the lid and tape it onto the box. This let's you
skip the plastic wrap. The plastic wrap provides the cats the ability to see their
potential prey a little easier.
I hope your kitty has fun with it's new toy. Stay tuned for more kitty fun.
